Hi Rob Vanderkam
If you have an electronic copy of those rules; will you please post them to the group here? It may assist many of us! Thanks so very much!

That's the case for all ESRI products as far back as I can remember. A group of geology IM folks I used to work with back in 1997 had a list of "10 commandments for using ArcInfo" which contained rules that one "shalt not do" when using ArcInfo. The list had over 150 rules, including this one.
cheers

Hi
Looks like your data is in a folder with a path name that has spaces in it. For whatever reason grid functions seem to get hung up when there are spaces in any part of the path name. Move all your data and set your workspace to a folder at the root (e.g. c:\workspace\).
Cheers,
Nate Peterson

Subject: Spatial Analyst error in Reclassification
Hi..
I'm encountering this error trying to reclassify raster data -- I've tried
several different datasets; they all produce the same error:
An error was encountered while executing Reclassify.
("esriGeoAnalyst.GridEngine") GRID ERROR - Syntax error at or near
symbol SSG~1\GAP_data\sc_landcov, C:\DOCUME~1\eric\MYDOCU~1\ROB'SG~1
\Temp\remap2, DATA)
Error in executing grid expression
Failed to execute (Reclassify_8).
I've done other reclassifications successfully.. I'm confident I'm using
the software correctly.
Any ideas?
Eric
